LITTLE STEPS TO IMPROVE YOUR HEALTH
There are many ways to improve your life without emptying your pocket book or charging up credit cards. Here are a few steps that anyone can make without feeling overwhelmed by cost or time.
Step One: Buy yourself planner or large calendar and tape on the wall for all to see. Make a schedule of your daily routine and note family time, work, appointments and household duties or errands. Starting this process will help your entire family. Enjoy the project, be creative--there is no right or wrong way to organize this information as long as it makes sense to you.
Step Two: Highlight “you time” and try to plan a half hour walk in the morning or later in the day. Too busy? Perhaps you can combine this with other activities. For an example: if you have shopping to do walk to the store. If you live too far, park your car further from the entrance to your favorite shopping mall. Taking extra time for yourself is not a crime it's doing something that will enhance your health.
Step Three: Try to limit sugar intake. Sugary products are energy robbers that can be high in fat content also, as in cookies, cakes, ice cream and other treats. Sugar is often disguised in punches, juices, granola bars or cereals. Watch those carbonated soft drinks too!
Tip # 1 Read your labels before purchasing packaged food.
Step Four: Eat a healthy breakfast. This will help improve your eating habits throughout the day. If you’re hungry midmorning, have an apple. At lunch and dinner, eat a huge salad filled with dark leafy greens and lots of chopped vegetables before your meal. Salads help to digest and compost your foods in a safer more efficient manner. Remember to drink plenty of water.
Tip# 2 Stop eating by 6:00 pm or close to that time.
Step Five: Read health magazines--other success stories can help inspire you. Challenge yourself to live your best possible life. Take charge of any obstacles that stand in your way because you own that power. It's up to you.
Tip# 3 Create your own personal anthem, mantra or reflection--something to help you believe in yourself. Read or repeat it often.
Once you introduce Little Steps into your daily routine they will help you feel and live a better, healthier life.

Our Health
As a registered nurse I had always dealt with cancer as an observer and an advocate for all of my patients who were dealing with the seriousness of life. Recently I had the challenge of helping on a much more personal level when my Father was diagnosed with colo- rectal cancer. It was a "difficult time" as I have heard it described, but that term doesn't capture the really serious effects that cancer can have on a loved one and the family surrounding them. We have survived the first 5 months and the first surgery knowing there is more to come, my heart goes out to all others who are traveling down this road too and to them I give a big, warm HUG! Women Only
The time I spent as a clinical research nurse on a project involving the drug Herceptin was one of the most difficult in my life. As a nurse I never realized the number of young women who were regularly diagnosed with Breast Cancer, it was eye opening and heart breaking. This drug has proven to be a new treatment being widely utilized in the fight against Breast Cancer. Some important facts about Breast Cancer are that the earlier breast cancer is found and diagnosed, the better your chances of beating it. Breast self-exam should be part of your monthly health care routine. If you're over 40 or at a high risk for the disease, you should also have an annual mammogram and physical exam by a doctor.
